22 year old Seagull IV water purifier refurbished

My customer passed me his spare 22 year old Seagull IV water purifier, to refurbish and install in his daughters home.

As usual few leaking parts to replace and the outlet pipe was broken inside the outlet top.

For just over Ringgit Malaysia 1,000, and changing all the damaged parts and replacing the seagull iv pre-filter and Seagull IV Structured Matrix cartridge, he got back in a few days an almost brand new Seagull IV.

Changed a 7 year old Pre-filter and Cartridge at PJ

I saw an advert by the main agent showing 20% off for all filters and cartridges. I called and found out that the sale price is actually more than then current price. Seems the trick is before raising prices in December, you have a sale in November saying its 20% off, which is more than the October price actually.

So just be aware that not every sale is a bargain, as what sells well, does not need to be on sale!.

2 weeks ago, I received a call from Azman inquiring about the Seagull IV filters and valve. He went online and found me easily.

Since his house is just 10 mins from mine, I visited him to install a valve and new pre-filter and cartridge. I was not surprised, as his unit was bought in 1990 - 18 years old and still working.

Flowing at 4 litres a minute, she was so happy

Last sunday, I installed the replacement Seagull IV pre-filter and cartridge at Nasha's house in Subang Jaya. After installation, her maid was so happy with the flow rate of 4 litres a minute, compared to the water dripping out earlier.

15 years ago, General Ecology hit the market and sold over 100,000 units of the Seagull IV. With a 10 year guarantee, I was one of the first few customers to invest in a unit.

Unfortunately the company closed down after just 3 years, and most people could not get the replacement pre filter and cartridge. I did manage to import the replacment parts from USA as this was the best water system I have ever used before.

What's the absolute or biggest size?

Most water systems only advertise the smallest hole but not the largest one.

Logically, a hole size 0.4 microns is sufficient to trap the smallest water borne cyst with a particle size of 0.5 micron. And a hole size of 0.1 microns is sufficient to trap dissolved chemicals and heavy metals in the water.

Every filter unit will have different hole sizes, so don’t be cheated by units claiming to have a hole size of 0.00001 microns. Not only is it a sales gimmick but also cheats uninformed consumers,

The problem with water in Asia is the high sediment content, due to aging leaking pipes. If mud sediments can get into your piped water supply, so can other contaminants as water pipes cross roads, farms and factories
